What a find! A Marx Joe Penner "Wanna Buy A Duck?" Wind Up Toy. A True Collectible!
Produced by the Louis Marx and Co. in about 1934, this wind up toy depicts the famous vaudeville, radio and films of the 30's, Joe Penner and one of his notable catchphrase "Wanna Buy a Duck?" and Goo Goo the Duck.
The wind up toy still works. When you wind it up, Joe walks, his cigar moves and his hat bounces up and down. It is made of tin and each piece is fastened together in tongue in grove like or buckle like closures. Goo Goo the Duck on the left and a basket full of ducks on the right are on rollers, so they move along as Joe Penner walks. It does show age, to be expected, but the colors are still very vibrant. It has been definitely treasured over the years.
It does come with a newspaper clipping showing a image of it. We believe it was an article about a photographer named Ken Botto, who photograph toys, etc. We also feel it's not really related to the piece other than it's a photograph of the toy. It's just gives the piece added value.
The toy stands at about 8 1/2 inches tall. From the front across it measures about 4 inches and from the side it measures about 4 1/2 inches.
The wind up toy is charming vintage condition. There appears to be no issues with it. It does not come in the original box. Don't miss this opportunity! A wonderful addition to any collection.
