- Item Description
This item is an antique Torquay Watcombe hand decorated and signed Terra-cotta Plate that features a view of a small Bridge crossing over a small dam next to a Pond or River. The hand painted scene features earth tone colors on top of the Brown Terra-cotta and dates to about 1890.
The Plate is a large 12-1/2 inches in diameter and weighs a substantial 2 pounds 12 ounces. On the front near the left edge is the artist's signature which appears to be CARNEY. On the back of the plate is an incised marking which reads:
WATCOMBE
TORQUAY
The paint on the top of the Plate has flaked away in areas, but appears to be about 90 percent intact. There is some label residue at the edge around the 4 o'clock position on the top. There is a chipped area on the underside at the ridge which serves as a foot for the Plate, but no chips on the topside or anywhere visible. There are no cracks or repairs. The overall condition of the plate is good to very good, and it will display nicely (see pictures above).
This is a fantastic antique Torquay Terra-cotta plate. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
