- Item Description
This item is an antique Torquay Watcombe hand decorated and signed Terra-cotta Plate with a beautiful Mountain and Lake picture. The hand painted scene features earth tone colors on top of the Brown Terra-cotta and dates to 1892. It is signed near the right edge (at the 4 o'clock position) reading J.R. Brunton Oct 92.
The Plate is a large 12-1/2 inches in diameter and weighs a substantial 2 pounds 13 ounces. On the back of the plate is an incised marking which reads:
WATCOMBE
TORQUAY
The paint on the top of the Plate has flaked away in areas, but appears to be about 95 percent intact. There is some label residue at the edge around the 5 o'clock position on the top. There is a minor chip on the underside at the ridge which serves as a foot for the Plate, but no chips on the topside or anywhere visible. There are no cracks or repairs. The overall condition of the plate is very good, and it will display nicely (see pictures).
This is a fantastic antique Torquay Terra-cotta plate. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
