- Item Description
These beautiful plates are from Portsmouth, located on the southwest coast of England and is quite the place for tourists! The plates proclaim: "A present from Portsmouth." These antique plates are from the 19th century, prior to 1880. The only mark is a "16", printed on the back of both plates. The rim of both plates are reticulated and once had some gold on them. The gold is still evident, but shows signs of wear. Ribbons were woven through the openings. You could do that if you wanted! The base of one plate has a series of small flea bits, but the other is fine. The design on each plate is different. One features two angels playing with flowers. The other shows these same two angels holding arrows, but the dark haired angel is losing his arrows in the clouds. There are no chips, cracks or crazing other that the bottom rim as described previously. Such a cute little set that any collector would love!
