- Item Description
Up for grabs here, we have a set of 2 rare Guppy "Island Ware" Plates.
These beautiful plates were manufactured by Guppy sometime between 1940s and 1950s. Guppy was a company founded by Roy and Harriet Guppy and located in Corona Del Mar, California. They were best known for their "Island Ware" line, an earthy line which featured square plates and very bright colors.
These plates have a beautiful glaze in light and dark browns, with touches of light blue. There are no stamps or marks on the dinner plate but the large serving platter has a mark which reads "Guppy Calif." The dinner plate measures just over 10 inches square, while the serving platter measures just over 14 inches square. We are also currently listing other Guppyware in other glazes, including more dinner plates and large platters.
Both plates are in overall fantastic condition, but all do have crazing throughout, which is common with other Guppy pieces this age. One plate does have small chip flake in one corner (See Pictures). Otherwise, there are no cracks or repairs. All these plates require are a good cleaning to look absolutely fantastic.
Don't miss the opportunity to own these rare pieces of California art pottery for your collection!
