We have here another wonderful find in our most recent Estate acquisition.
This Gorgeous representation of Scarlet O'Hara, a Beautiful Southern Belle bedecked in her 1860's traditional attire is exquisitely life-like.
Its Oval Frame appears to have been crafted of some type of molded wood or perhaps Gesso. We are not exactly certain of that, but this is what it appears to us to be.
The Oval Frame measures about 22 inches tall by about 14 inches wide and has a depth of about 2 1/2 inches. The entire piece weighs approximately 5 pounds.
It came to us from the Home of Lorraine Wilson, the Los Angeles California Artist who created many exquisite painted porcelain Plates featuring magnificent and very life-like Floral patterns.
Although we were not able to find a signature, we have told that Lorraine Wilson may possibly have actually done the face painting and perhaps other areas as well, including the beautifully lacquered finger nails.
Resting upon what appears to be a Cerise-toned Velvet Background we find a magnificent execution in Bisque, of what appears to be Scarlett O'Hara right out of Tara. Her Blue eyes seem almost real, her extremely long eye lashes are not painted, but have been applied to her lids as false eye lashes might be. Her Lips are beautifully painted as are her finger nails. The complexion is flawless and beautifully tinted. Her Dark Brown Hair has been magnificently coiffed with long thick lush curls, so appropriate for that period in time.
Her typical Southern genteel lady Hat is trimmed with Feathers, Flowers, Ruffles and Pearls while her Beaded neckline trim, Lace bodice and Bouquet of Pink and White roses complete this truly Elegant Picture.
The Frame has been given a soft burnished golden finish which makes for a lovely backdrop for the raised floral feature trim at top, bottom and sides of the Frame.
It is in quite lovely vintage condition although we have detected a few little scratches in the Convex Glass which are not obvious but are definitely there. They certainly however, do not detract in any way from the beauty of this wonderful shadow box. Any white spots or other odd marks shown in the photographs are only a result of the reflection of the light that was available at the time the photos were taken.
Just give it a gentle cleaning and it will soon be ready to be a lovely addition to your Collection or for that of the collector in your life.
In addition, this is a Fantastic Investment in A very charming depiction of Scarlet O'Hara, a fine example of an American Southern Belle, which should continue to maintain its beauty and increase in value as more and more time goes by! What a treasured heirloom this will become for your future generations.
How nice to have this for yourself - or - as a treasured and well-appreciated gift for the Holidays and throughout the year for that very special person in your life!
