We have here another wonderful find in this very Beautiful Antique Portfolio of Color Plates depicting Cathedral Cities of Spain.
This book's front and back covers measure about 9 1/2 inches high by about 6 inches in width.
Although the Cover Information tells us that it originally contained 60 reproductions, alas - we only received it with about 47 reproductions.
Complete Information on Cover tells that these 60 reproductions are from original water-colours by W.W. Collins, R.I.
Published by
J.H. Jansen
Successor to M.A. Vinson
205-6 Caxton Building, Cleveland, O.
We are able to approximately date it to 1908 because we see that Portions of Reviews are from "American Architect," page 10, issue of July 8, 1908.
Evidently from additional information on interior of cover, we see that there were 4 other portfolios which people could purchase. There were English Cathedrals, French Cathedrals, Versailles and the trianons as well as a portfolio for Cairo, Jerusalem and Damascus. Each of these portfolios, including this one was made to sell for $2.00. In addition, one could purchase all 5 portfolios for $9.00.
All of the beautiful reproductions here are of the same size - 5 1/4" by 9".
To mention just a few of the Cathedral Cities here - in no particular order - are:
Granada,Leon, Cordoba,Seville,Tarragona,Barcelona, Saragossa, Gerona, and very many many more.
We have only shown a few of the many beautiful reproductions contained in this Folio - Toledo and Cordoba. Each one is more beautiful than the next.
This Antique Portfolio is in lovely aged condition; we have only found one with a page bearing a crease. This is truly a very special find and should be a fantastic addition to your collection. It can only continue increasing in value as more and more time goes by bringing you a great deal of viewing pleasure.
