- Item Description
We are pleased to present this 1884 edition of the Book Yesterday To-Day and For Ever for your consideration. It was written by Reverend E. H. Bickersteth, M.A. (1825-1906) and includes his signed dedication which reads approximately: The very Rev ? Dean of Wells with ? grateful? regards. The? writer E.H. Bickersteth 9 Dec? 1884. It has a Ex Dono (donated) sticker on the inside of the front cover with Plumptre written on it. E. H. Plumptre (1821-1891) was the Dean of Wells Theological College (we believe the Ex Dono sticker is from the college) and had previously written about Bickersteth in one of his books, and had in fact corresponded with him, both men sharing an interest in verse, hymns, and theology.
The Book contains a "Poem in Twelve Books". It was published in 1884 in London by Rivingtons, and is the fifteenth edition. Hardcover, it measures 5-3/4 inches by 4-1/4 inches and is about 7/8 inch thick, containing 387 pages. It weighs 9.9 ounces.
The covers show minimal wear, with bumps to the corners and especially at the top and bottom of the spine. There is a small round sticker with the number 1 on the spine. A few small pencil markings were noted on interior pages. Moderate foxing is found on endpages, less so on interior pages. Some gaps in the binding are seen (see our pictures #8 and #9 for examples), but the binding remains tight and pages are secure. Inside pages show minimal darkening from age and few signs of wear. We rate the overall condition as good to very good (see pictures).
This is a nice signed copy of an enduring work by a noted author. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
