This book is Lectures On Ancient Art written by Raoul Rochette and published by Arthur Hall, Virtue & Co. in 1854.
The Book is hardcover with a leather cover. The front cover is embossed EDINBURGH INSTITUTION with the school's logo in Gold. On the inside of the front cover is an Edinburgh Institution bookplate awarding the book to a student as 5th prize in July, 1858. Opposite the bookplate page is an ink gift inscription dated 1969.
The Book is 7 1/4 inches in height, 4 7/8 inches wide, and about 5/8 inch thick. It weighs 9.3 ounces.
The front cover has a large dark area where the leather seems thinner than the surrounding area. The covers show moderate wear, and the front cover has a slight curl upwards. The first and last few inside pages are dark around the edges, and there are some small ink markings on the last page opposite the back cover. Most inside pages are in very good to excellent condition (especially considering the age) with a bright and crisp appearance. The binding is still tight. The overall condition of the Book is very good.
This is a very collectible book in better condition than expected for an 1854 publication. It would be a wonderful addition to any collection!
