- Item Description
We are pleased to present this 1879 edition of the Book The Girdle Legend of Prato for your consideration. It was written by Robert Charles Jenkins, M.A. (1815-1896) and includes his handwritten dedication which reads: The Rev. Professor Plumptre With the authors sincere Regards June 22 1881. It has a Wells Theological College bookplate on the inside of the front cover which commemorates Plumptre's term as Dean at the college (from 1881 to 1891, the year of his death).
The Book was published in 1879 in London by C. Kegan Paul & Co. Hardcover, it measures 6-5/8 inches by 4-5/8 inches and is about 1/4 inch thick, containing 60 pages. It weighs 3.6 ounces.
The covers show a slight warp outwards. Some edge wear is noted with corner bumps and fading towards the edges. The spine has darkened quite a bit from age. Slight foxing is seen on interior pages and the bookplate. The binding has three staples which can be seen on some of the front pages, and the staples have surface rust. A few of the early pages are beginning to come loose from the staples, but remain attached. Interior pages show minimal darkening from age with little wear. We rate the overall condition as good to very good (see pictures).
This is a nice copy of an enduring work by a noted author. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
