- Item Description
We are pleased to present this 1884 edition of the Book From Year To Year for your consideration. It was written by Reverend E. H. Bickersteth, M.A. (1825-1906) and includes his signed dedication which reads: Dean Plumptre from the writer E. H. Bickersteth, 19 January 1885. It has a Wells Theological College Ex Dono (donated) sticker on the inside of the front cover with Plumptre written on it. E. H. Plumptre (1821-1891) had previously written about Bickersteth in one of his books, and had in fact corresponded with him, both men sharing an interest in verse, hymns, and theology.
The Book contains Poems and Hymns, for "All the Sundays and Holy Days of the Church". It was published in 1884 in London by Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, & Rivington. Hardcover, it measures 6 inches by 4-1/2 inches and is about 3/4 inch thick, containing 232 pages. It weighs 9.5 ounces.
The Book is in quite good condition. Covers show minimal wear, with bumps to the corners. There is a small round sticker with the number 2 on the spine. Two small pencil markings were noted on interior pages. Light foxing is noted throughout the Book. There is some separation seen at the binding between some pages but not to the extent that I would call the binding cracked - pages are secure and the binding feels tight (see our picture #8 where this can be seen, especially towards the bottom of the pages). Inside pages show minimal darkening from age and few signs of wear. We rate the overall condition as very good (see pictures).
This is a nice signed copy of an enduring work by a noted author. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
