- Item Description
Up for your consideration is this fantastic Arts & Crafts Mirror Back Sideboard that dates to around the 1880's. From Australia, this piece features 2 Mirrors with beveled edges on the back of the Hutch section of the piece. Made from Quarter Sawn Oak, the Sideboard has a shelf on the Hutch section, 2 Drawers, and a large compartment with 2 shelves behind the 2 doors on the front.
The Sideboard is 86 inches high, 18-3/4 inches deep, and 54-1/4 inches wide. Height to the working surface is 40 inches. The two Drawers are 5 inches high and 21 inches wide (inside usable dimensions). The two lower Shelves are 16 inches deep.
The Sideboard has a dark and warm patina consistent with its age. There are many scratches, knife marks at the edge, and other signs of years of use, which only add to the charm and character of the piece. We noticed 2 small damaged spots - one is a small chip of wood missing from the crown at the top right edge which is not very noticeable from the front (shown in the last picture). There is also a small split in the wood trim at the bottom edge of the Hutch section which would benefit from some wood glue. We also see some minor scratches to the lower portion of the upper Mirror. The overall condition is very good with no serious problems noted (see pictures above).
This is an exceptional Arts & Crafts Sideboard. It would be a wonderful addition to any Arts & Crafts furniture collection!
