- Item Description
We are pleased to present this exciting Space Collection for your consideration. Included are two large ASTP (Apollo-Soyuz Test Project) pictures, plus four (4) Los Angeles Times Newspapers that were published during the time of the first Moon Landing in July, 1969.
The two pictures are mounted to wood backings which raise them about 1-1/2 inches from the wall. The first features a picture of the two Mission Commanders, Thomas Stafford of the United States, and Alexey Leonov of the U.S.S.R. sitting next to each other at a table. A visible Microphone in front of Alexey suggest it may have been a press conference. This picture is 19-1/4 inches high and 23-1/4 inches wide and has nice colors and detail. There is some wear near the edges with some light surface wear to the picture. The frame has some numbers marked on the outside edges. The overall condition is very good (see pictures).
The second picture is 18 inches high and 23 inches wide, and shows an image of the Soviet Space Center Control Room, with men and woman in front of two rows of monitors at the bottom of the picture and a large world map display at the upper left showing spacecraft positions. At the upper right is a large monitor which shows video from the mission, with two Astronauts and two Cosmonauts visible. The picture has some light surface wear on the front, with some water stains visible on the edges and the back that do not affect the front. The back has a taped label with German text that loosely translates as "In the Soviet control center for Spaceflight". We rate the overall condition of this picture as very good.
The Newspapers date to July 18, July 19, July 20, and July 24, 1969, and cover the days leading up to the first Moon Landing, plus the period during which the mission is returning to Earth. The papers include only their first (news) section. They are yellow from age, but the paper is solid, and their overall condition is good to very good.
This is an exciting set of large size ASTP pictures, ready to mount on the wall, along with some historically significant newspapers dating to Man's first trip to the Moon. The pictures and newspapers would make wonderful additions to any Space collection!
