Here we have a fantastic oil painting by Emerson Lewis (1892-1958). The painting is called Truckee River and depicts the mighty river during a peaceful, beautiful day. Simply Gorgeous!
Emerson Lewis was born and raised in the Midwest. He grew up around other artists and eventually went to Northwestern for his art studies. In WWI, he furthered his art training by studying art in Italy and France.
After WWI, Lewis made is way west to California. He lived in various locations in California, immersing himself in the art communities. This is where most of his artwork was depicted. He eventually settled in Orange County, California till his death in 1958.
This particular piece is of the Truckee River in Northern California. The date of the painting in unknown.
The painting and frame are in lovely vintage condition, to be expected. The painting was rematted but over the years the linen mat became water damaged, although the painting looks like it was not affected by this. The measurements are about 36 inches in width and 29 inches in height. The painting, itself, 18 inches by 24 inches. There is wire hardware for hanging. Give the frame a gentle cleaning and possibly remat the painting. On the back it appears to be original information about the painting:
