This is the 1927 issue of The Searchlight, the Yearbook of Minot High School in Minot, North Dakota. It was published by the Senior Class of 1927 and is volume XVIII (18).
The Yearbook is filled with typical material including pictures of the Students, Club pictures and Membership Lists, Teachers and Staff, lists of Athletic Awards, reports on how the Athletic Teams did during their Season, Stories and Limericks, vintage Advertisements, much more! The Yearbook gives a great view of High School life in the years just prior to the Great Depression.
Found in the pages of the Yearbook were three (3) full page advertisements for the Gilbert and Sullivan play The Gondoliers performed at Minot State Teacher's College on Friday, May 14. No year is specified. We have shown a picture of one of them (above), and they are included with the Yearbook.
The Yearbook is 10-3/4 inches high and 8 inches wide. It is about 5/8 inch thick. Although the pages are unnumbered, we estimate that it contains about 100 pages. It has softcovers with heavy gloss pages inside, and dividers made of a heavy construction type paper in various pastel shades.
The covers of the Yearbook show moderate wear, especially around the edges. There is a couple of inches of separation between the front cover and the spine, at the top edge. Additionally, some separation is seen between the front cover and the body of the book when looking at the binding with the front cover open. Despite those issues, the cover is still firmly attached and the binding is secure.
The inside pages have many inscriptions and autographs, mostly written in ink. Inside pages show a bit of age related browning, but are solid and in above average condition. There are signs of some moisture exposure at the back of the Yearbook, at the top edge near the spine. Some light wrinkling is seen in this area for about the back 1/3 of the Yearbook, but without any serious discoloration or other problems. Overall, we rate this Yearbook as being in good to very good condition (see pictures).
This is a fantastic vintage Yearbook with great pictures of the Students, Staff, and Events. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
