Item Description

We are pleased to present this Bey-Berk International Porthole Wall Clock for your consideration. This large Clock has a solid Brass enclosure designed to look like a Porthole on a Ship with realistic looking details including ten (10) Bolt Heads on the front, plus a Brass door containing the Glass over the Clock face that actually opens, swinging on a substantial Brass Hinge, and locking with a sturdy Brass Latch.

The Clock is Quartz and is powered by a single "D" Cell Battery. It has a smoothly turning second hand, and an extra scale on the Face which shows hours in the 24-hour format (i.e. hours 13-24). We have tested the Clock and find it to keep accurate time. The Clock is set with a control knob on the lower edge. A nice feature is that the second hand returns to the "12" position when the knob is pulled, making it easy to set the time to the exact same time as a reference Clock.

This is a large piece with a quality look. It is about 9-1/8 inches in diameter and 3 inches thick (maximum). The main body of the Clock is 2 inches thick and looks like solid Brass. The Glass over the Clock face is 5-3/4 inches in diameter and is thick, with a nicely beveled edge on the front. Quite heavy for a Wall Clock, it weighs in at over 8 pounds.

As we said, the Clock is keeping accurate time and has been run for 10 days now. One thing that puzzles us is that on the back of the clock, there is an opening where a bell is located, but we do not know what triggers the bell, and we have not heard the bell go off while the Clock has been running during our testing. There is no hand on the Clock for an alarm, so we'll leave the mystery of the bell for the new owner.

Physically, the clock shows only minor wear. The Glass over the Clock face is in excellent condition. The face itself has a couple of dirty spots, but little wear. The Brass shows some minor tarnish spots, and has a medium patina on exterior surfaces which could be polished if desired. The Battery contacts and compartment are clean. We rate the overall physical condition as very good to excellent (see pictures above).

This is a fantastic Clock with exceptional styling and features. A true work of quality, it would make a fabulous Holiday Gift for any nautical enthusiast, or be a wonderful addition to any Clock collection!
