We have here another wonderful find in this Handsome Australian Station Master's Desk.
This lovely Desk came to us from Hazelbrook in the Blue Mountains Region above Sydney, Australia.
Its top surface measures about 76 Inches by about 26 1/2 Inches. Because it was made as a desk, its surface angles slightly forward for ease in working and writing. For that reason, it stands about 31 Inches above the floor at its front, while its back portion rises about 33 Inches above the floor.
Our Very Beautiful Desk has been crafted of a very fine selection of hardwood which has a rich Mahogany Grain. Its top working surface appears to have had the dark finish which we see below - removed. It is quite charming in its present state as it displays all of the use and ink marks of the Masters who performed their work at this Desk.
It features two very spacious front drawers with nice round and proportionately large pull knobs. These Wooden drawer Knobs have a diameter of about 2 1/4 Inches each. We believe that there is a possibility that the bottoms of each of the drawers may have been replaced at some point in its history.
We are very impressed with the nicely contoured chamfered edges we see on the leg edges as well as the general sturdy and very impressive appearance of this fantastic example of a desk from another period in time. We really do not know for certain, the significance of the metal plate affixed beneath the work surface with the number '448' which we have photographed for your inspection.
We can also imagine this beautiful Antique Station Master's Desk making its appearance in a Kitchen as a Counter, Work Space or as an Island. To be used for this purpose, it is recommended that a 5 degree wedge be placed beneath front legs to bring it level to floor. However, because of the angle, it probably would be best if placed against a wall. The uses and areas for its use and enjoyment are endless and are only limited by the boundaries of one's imagination. It is quite heavy, extremely well made and will surely live on for a long time to come.
It is really in Lovely Vintage Condition. Of course it does have the always anticipated areas of minor surface wear and age-related patina inherent in older furniture. We do believe however, that it is these areas if and when they do exist, are what we really seek in older furniture. It is exactly what gives them their special charm and character.
Just give it a gentle cleaning, perhaps a bit of appropriate polish and it will be ready to go to work for you bringing you much pleasure and numerous compliments.
This is a Fantastic Investment in Beauty as well as in Function and will certainly continue to Increase in Value as more and more time goes by.
Don't miss the opportunity to own this Handsome Australian Station Master's Desk. It will come to be your family's heirloom for many future generations !
