Floral Nippon Vase Moriage / Cobalt Blue

A classic Nippon Vase with a striking cobalt blue top and base. There are not any marks which is consistent with Pre WWII period Nippon. The item has double handles and a ruffled neck decorated in a bright cobalt blue. The body is hand painted with cameos of floral patterns in red, green and gold. There is a gold moriage border, which separates the cobalt blue top section from the main body. There is gold throughout the piece. There is some loss of gold in the blue area consistent with Nippon of this period. In very good condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. Buy it now on eBay!

Mid 19th c. Satsuma Bowl with Raised Guilding & Enameling

This softpaste earthenware Satsuma bowl probably dates to the mid 19th century, about 1850, the beginning of the Edo Period. The overglazed enameling is very intricate and features a saintly elder teaching a young child. In the background you can see a house, trees and birds. The overglazed enameling is in gold, white, green, blue and red. It is all handpainted and there is quite a bit of detail in the old scholar's facial expressions. There is no mark on the back. There is a small manufacturing crack on the bottom from the drying process that does not go through the bowl. The gold on the rim is very good, although there is some minor wear due to age. There are no cracks or chips. There is one fleabite on the rim that is not really noticeable, but you can feel it. In fact, I've been handling this bowl for quite some time and only just noticed it (with my finger.) There is crazing throughout, but I like it. Overall a really nice Satsuma bowl. Buy it on eBay!

Bauer Ring Ware Colbalt Blue Cookie Jar w/o Lid

Fantastic piece of Bauerware. Haven't seen it before, but found it recently in a Bauer book. Great color. The pictures do not show the exact color. I presume it is called cobalt blue. It is a barrel shaped cookie jar, but the lid is missing. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. I found it in a backyard in Los Angeles. Here it was, sitting on a bench with lots of pots. There are three firing points on the base and "Bauer Los Angeles" under a heavy glaze. A great addition to any Bauer collection! Buy it on eBay!

There is a relief mark on the base that I believe reads "Villquris". There is no damage or crazing to this piece. What a fantastic addition to your modern home! But it on eBay!

French Majolica Pitcher with Grapes

This is a wonderful old majolica pitcher that we recently acquired in the north of France. The colors are a wonderful mix of cobalt blue, teal blue and various umbers and browns. Around the body of the pitcher are relief grapes, vines and leafs. The handle is handcrafted and resembles a grape vine. There are no chips or cracks. The unglazed base shows some crazing. I don't notice any elsewhere. This is a beautiful piece of majolica and would be terrific in your collection. Buy it on eBay!

Dresden Reticulated Compote or Cake Plate with Gold Lustre

This is a lovely piece to add to your German porcelain or cake plate / compote collection! The top plate is reticulated and features handpainted gold lustre decoration of acanthus and other leaves. What really makes this piece nice is that even the foot is reticulated with additional gold lustre decoration. The gold is stunning against the white hard paste porcelain. The foot is connected separately to the top plate by a long screw and bolt. I removed the base in an attempt to find a maker's mark, but there was none. Both pieces are marked by handpainted numbers (likely by the artist), and read:" 222 63". The number 45 is impressed on the back of the top plate. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. The gold is in excellent condition. This is really a lovely piece that I hope you'll like. Otherwise, I think I'll take it home and put it in my collection. Have fun! Buy it on eBay!

French Majolica Ringed Pitcher

This is the second of two majolica pitchers that we recently acquired in the north of France. This particular pitcher has a spattered glaze effect in a cobalt blue, and various shades of yellow, brown and umber. The bulbous part of the body is encircled by 1/2" rings. This is a nice, handthrown pitcher. The base and the top rim are unglazed. The interior is a mustard yellow color. There are no chips or cracks. There is some faint crazing that can be seen in bright light to the interior and is barely visible in the yellow glaze around the top rim. There is also a small piece of glaze that is missing on the handle. It isn't in the pictures above, but it measures about 1/16" x 1/4". I didn't notice it at first. Overall, a wonderful piece of pottery for your collection. Buy it on eBay!

Handpainted Flow Blue Pitcher with Copper Lustre

If you are a flow blue fan, this is a lovely pitcher. It features a fruit tree on each side that is both flow blue with an overglazing of copper lustre on the leaves and trunk. There are also three pieces of fruit handpainted on each side. The rim has both flow blue and copper lustre. The bottom of the pitcher is embossed with what appears to be grass. The handle is notched for ease in holding and is also blue and copper. There are no chips or cracks. There is crazing, however, which is to be expected in a piece with this age. There are also two spots on the fruit where the paint has come off. I've shown these in the pictures above. There are no maker's marks. This would be great for a garden bouquet or just to add to your flow blue collection! Buy it on eBay!

Royal Cauldon Stoneware Covered Tureen or Vegetable Bowl Hi.

We're not sure of the name of this pattern. It does have a Greek Key trim around the lid and the bowl. It is very heavy, so I assume that it is stoneware. There is gold on the handles and on the lid knob that is hand painted. The black key is in a raised relief. The gold is in excellent condition. There is one tiny spot where it is missing on the bowl rim. There is a tiny mold mark on the lid. The tureen is in great, gently used condition. No chips, cracks or crazing. It would look great on your table for the holidays. Buy it on eBay!

This piece has a mouse on the lid, so it must be for cheese!! The shape is by Alf Robson. The pattern is by Emma Elsner. The design on the front is either a thistle or a tassle. There are no chips or cracks. There is some crazing on the lid (and a stain on the base.) It is a retro '60's piece, I would think. Buy it on eBay!
